The steady rhythm and constancy of the Shipping Forecast has soothed, informed, and comforted listeners for an entire century. What better way to celebrate this beloved institution than by performing another pillar of British culture: Elgar’s Sea Pictures. Seldom heard in a male voice, Elgar’s evocative sea songs are here paired with a rich variety of genres, guiding us from Mysteries of the Deep to Exotic Isles, and eventually bringing us ashore with a nod to another iconic BBC programme — Desert Island Discs.
James Newby is a former BBC New Generation Artist and Rising Star of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. As well as a 2022 BBT Award winner, he was an ECHO Rising Star (2022/23) with appearances at major concert halls throughout Europe.
